I feel the best way to start any relationship… because that’s what we are creating an agreement, a relationship that allows us to benefit from each other’s differences that made us who we are today. So, as we begin our journey let’s agree to never let jealousy, envy, or our ignorance EVER get in the way of supporting each other for the benefit of all.
A little background on me as an adult I spent the majority of my growing stages in the military. Individuality and bringing life to your ideas were out unless they specifically aligned with your assigned duties. Well, I’m rather creative naturally so I was always looking for ways to use my creativity to provide solutions. While I found this extremely fulfilling transitioning to civilian life was a lot more complicated than I bargained for. Everyone has their own skill and unique abilities they’ve been able to test out in the wild and I… I was a novice, a beginner, farther behind than I could ever imagine at taming the wild, showcasing my creativity, and turning my thoughts into a reality (well not so much, more on that in another post).
Above All Else Get Knowledge
Education is vital. Understanding how each industry communicates with one another, and the jargon and nuances that come with each community is the only way to get any resemblance of traction. Without knowledge, you will constantly be on the hamster wheel to nowhere. Now, in some communities they “gatekeep” or sometimes the go-to person who has learned a new skill hoards information for “security” purposes. Insecurity will defile and degrade any intelligence gathered from experience which is why I have created an example of the stages of learning, Plant the idea in the ground of research or information, water it with continued education, and watch it grow. What good is a farmer who never sells his crop? The same can be said for learners who don’t teach.

Know Thy Self
Self-discovery is a step that is often overlooked and neglected for the sole purpose of “getting things done”; but what can you create with hands you don’t know how to use? I found that all of the creativity, knowledge, and wisdom is almost useless if you know not how it can be applied to your own life. This is why I recommend understanding your history, learning style, personality type, and leadership style. With this basic information you can start driving, your beliefs and experiences will determine the roads you must travel to reach your desired goal. With the data you gather about yourself, you become an unstoppable force, a contender in your industry because your foundation is solid.
Treat Others the Way You Expect to be Treated
This may seem cliche and corny but hear me out. If you have already learned lessons one and two this one is NO PROBLEM. When arriving at this point you understand that life balances itself out, people come and go, but you go to bed with how you affected the world every night. Try to never go to sleep without doing what can be done to ensure others understand the expectations. Additionally, ensure they provide you with their preferred method of conflict resolution so you also have a no-hassle way of moving past obstacles with your preferred people/person. Creating a conflict resolution system(s) ensures progress is not hindered by shyness, insecurity, fear, longing, or any other stagnant emotion because you’ve already provided each other with at least one avenue to navigate obstacles.
*Pro Tip Use your self-assessments from lesson one to determine how you may react to conflict and discover any areas in need of improvement.
Put Your Hands to the Plow
While I’m sure this saying originated from some oppressive system, it still rings true. What crop are you expecting to sell if you don’t till the land, plant the seeds, and prepare for harvest? So, just start somewhere, start today, right now. You’ve got this!
